The Great Flood

Read:

Genesis 6-10

Reflection:

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth and that every intent of the thoughts of their heart was only evil continually.  And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them." (Genesis 6:5-7)

These are the important lessons we should learn from this story:

1. God works with righteous men.

'But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. (Genesis 6:8-9)

Thus, we should wipe-out any kind of evil in our life because if we continue to live in sin, our Lord will never work together with us. Moreover, we might know how God was disappointed because of man's depravity, it is said in verse 6 "...He was grieved in His heart." It is obvious which way we should go if we are in Christ. And I am so envious of Noah who was perfect in his generation for "he walked with God". I hope that I will be given the grace of God to work with God my whole life.

2. God abhors evil that is why He destroyed all things living on the earth even though He had created man in His image.

On the other hand, we may ask: "Did those who lived during that time did not God's wrath, therefore, God destroyed the whole living thing because of their evil?" The answer is "they knew BUT they neglected." Even though they saw Noah building the ark, they did not believe how God will destroy the earth.

This is more clear in the book of Luke 17:26-30 when Jesus Christ taught that He is coming again in the world, "they ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. ...even on will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed." According to Jesus's teaching, people used to fall in their own sinful life. In Genesis 6:5, they neglected God's wrath and did not accept God's warning. It is the same circumstance today in our generation, we have been warned of God's wrath because of our sinfulness but many still could not realize the severity of God's wrath.

This is what we should tell our friends who are working on the ship especially that we are Ship Missionaries.
