The Tower of Babel

Read:

Genesis 11

Reflection:

Those men who were born after the great flood have also forgotten how God abhor the evil. The main source of sin is that people would be god in all of their life since the matter of the good and evil fruit. Even though they were destroyed from the great flood, it passed only around 200 years. Men who were born after the affair did not changed the sinful characters. They would be owner of their life, and they did not center God in their life. 'They said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."(Gen. 11:4) They had conducted to make their own name in all aspect instead of the name of God. And they did not obey God's order which is to be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it (Gen. 1:28a) even after the great flood (Gen. 9:7). However, they did not want to be scattered over the face of the whole earth.(Gen. 11:4)

Same here nowadays, the main matter in our spiritual life is that who the owner of life is. Since our forefather Adam has fallen in sin, all of people has this desire, which is to be god in our life. Many times maybe man had pursued on this deceitful desire until now. All men who has this nature would not like to work with God, but they pursue to be owner of their life continually. What we have to realize obviously is the difference between "Knowing and Doing". All people among believers or non believers has these sinful habit as well, which is arrogance; being god in all of their perspective. However, those people who are in Christ, they might know what they must do from the grace of God through Jesus Christ. Then, if believers, those that have faith in Christ, don't humble themselves before God, they are same with non believer, and they may lost the power to live as people of God. Don't stop at knowing, but struggle to be in humility before God. Even if you fail to be humble, still we are able to rely on the grace of God.
