Relationship For A Lifetime

Read: Deuteronomy 5-11

In this assigned chapter that we are going to read this week, there are significant verses for what our Lord wants us to do (Ch.6:4-9).

It is very important that we give some interpretation of each verse.

1. (v4)"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one."

Our Lord warned Israel through Moses that there are many gods in the world, and so God did not want that Israel would be tempted by such gods in their new place, on which they will stay. That is why He would declare through Moses that He is the only one, God.

2. (v5) "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and all your strength."

(v6) "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts."

If you follow the instructions of God, you should keep your integrity, not in keeping with formalities, nor of religious rituals, but by all of the entire heart, soul, and strength.

If they do not do that, the enemy of God will subdue your spirit. This is the same for us also.

3. (7) Impress them on your children, talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."

It means that they remember how the LORD had rescued them from Egypt, and on why He takes the Israelites out from that place and onto wherever they go- that is to make the Israelites His own people, to be His chosen nation, and to make them a priesthood nation, one who will bring the people back to God (because they have turned from following Him).

So our Lord does not want that the Israelites would mix with the unclean people, nor want them to follow their futile and immoral ways.

Therefore, if they tie such symbols on their body and on their houses, it is not to be forgotten but rather they are to be reminded of who they are and what they are to do (always).

So, the question is, how much are you eager to know the Lord, and follow His way?
