In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:6-7)I. Context:
A. Author: PeterB. Audience/ Recipient: Elect exiles
1. ELECT EXILES - God's chosen people exiles in this world.
2. This does not literally pertain to the exiles that we have seen in the Old Testament.
II. Purpose:
A. Comfort and Encouragement to the "elect exiles". To live righteous lives and to look forward to a future hope.III. Main Point of verses (3-12):
A. Believers are saved by grace through faith in Christ for God's glory. We were made alive towards a new direction. God rescued us so that we might be reconciled to him.B. We were "Born Again to a Living Hope"
IV. Scripture: 1 Peter 1:6-7

OBSERVATION
A. Main Point: Rejoicing in the Gospel is our only hope in suffering.1. Jesus is the One we preach. (2 Cor 4:5)
2. The Gospel is the Good News about Jesus' perfect & sinless life, substitutionary death & glorious resurrection. (1 Peter 1: 3-5)
3. Therefore, Jesus is our only hope in suffering.
4. Therefore, rejoicing in the Gospel of Jesus Christ is our only hope in suffering
a. Joy in Christ is not only a result of our salvation, but also the fuel that sustains us in times of deep suffering.
b. Genuine faith results in praise and glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (When Jesus comes again)
VI. Application:
1. In prayer, ask God for the assurance of our salvation as you read 1 Peter Chapter 1.2. Take note of the reasons why God saved you.
3. Intentionally pray for God to provide situations where you can share the "hope that is in you".
