so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)In this verses, Paul prayed that we, Christians, would know and understand the magnitude of God's love. Few people really do comprehend how much God loves them.
Why do we really need to know His love?
Answer: Dahil, the more nanakikilala natin Siya at nalalaman kung gaano Niya tayo ka-mahal, the more tayo nana-go-grow at nagiging mature sa relationship natin kay Lord.
One of the central themes of the Bible is God's love for man. By studying His word, we can understand kung gaano KALAWAK, KAHABA, KATAAS at KALALIM ng pag-ibig ni Kristo sa atin.
Here are four references:
1. God's Love Is Everlasting
the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. (Jeremiah 31:3)Everlasting - it means, lasting or enduring through all the time.
"Walang Hanggan" "Walang Katapusan"
Nowadays, it's quite common for people to "Fall In Love"(adlib) and in a few short years, weeks, or even days, they eventually "Fall out of Love". In contrast to human love, which is often temporary, God's love is eternal. It lasts forever. It does not fade with time.
2. God's Love Is For Sinners
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)When I was not yet a Christian, akala ko before naila-love at ibi-bless ako ni God dahil lagi akong present sa Church. I thought God only loves me when I'm properly performing religious duties. Sometimes, we assume that the more religious we act, the more God loves us. The Bible teaches just the opposite. God's greatest demonstration of love was not in response to our righteousness. Rather, it was in response to our rebellion.
Who are those sinners?
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
TAYO ang sinners.
But God demonstrates His love when He sent His Son.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
3. God's Love Is Great
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. (1 John 3:1)And that is what we are!
Tragically, many grew up in families where one child was shown more love than others. The not-so-favored child may have felt some degree of love but not just as much as the other children. God's family is not like that. His love is not great towards me and barely existent toward others. Rather, His love has been for all His children.
4. God's Love Is Constant
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35,37-39)It is easy to feel that God loves us when things are going well—in times of prosperity, health, and peace. But what about in times of lack, persecution and doubt? During tough times, many of us wrongly feel that we are separated from God's love. We must settle once and for all that God loved us. The proof of His love is not found in our present circumstances, but in what He did on the cross for us 2,000 years ago.
