Scripture: Acts 14: 19-23
Everything our eyes can see will one day cease to exist. Nothing is permanent and certain. People tried to catch up life and control its change to the point that they were deceived by its own pleasures. They forget God and live the way they wanted it to be. But we praise God because as a child of God we received in Him the certain of truths. And it gives us hope to persevere, to be faithful and love the Lord more than anything else. When uncertainties hit us and doubts will knock the doors of hearts may we remember these truths:
1. Conversion
Paul could have all the reasons to dismiss his faith because of the things he suffered from sharing the gospel. He was beaten up and dragged out of the city today but the next morning you see him again preaching the gospel in another city. Its amazing indeed! Where in the world he got this perspective? Before this incident took place, was the very special day for Paul, it was a day where he found love and grace in the very presence of God. Once a persecutor and blasphemer of God now a servant of God, from Saul to Paul , a name that heaven can remember. His conversion was a day that he cannot afford to exchange it for ordinary things here on earth and the pains he went through. It fuels him to serve God even more. When we come to the point of our limits and being swayed by the fear of uncertainties may we remember that we already have given our life to Jesus. We are certain that He begun a good work in us, He is faithful to finish it until the day He comes.
We are not called to commit when everything is easy and fine. Our commitment should be like of Christ.
2. Conviction
Paul's conviction is certain that He was saved for a purpose. He could have blame people for hurting him or stayed on his pains and frustrations but that was not the point of a life being saved by grace. His purpose was greater than the things his eyes can see, it was eternal. Even when Paul was inside the prison cell he still exemplified a life of joy and still able to encourage someone to live life joyfully. His conviction was clear that He was living with a greater purpose in life.Amidst the uncertainty of life, its possible that can we look at things that happened to us with certainty that if falls in purposes of God and only then we could live for God faithfully in spite and despite of everything.
3. Commitment
Paul's commitment was so strong that he said in the book of Rom.8:35, who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? Yes, our commitment will be tested but only those who stood firmly on it, will triumph. In those days, when Jesus had His ministry here on earth many have said Yes, but was not faithful til the cross. We are not called to commit when everything is easy and fine. Our commitment should be like of Christ. He is so committed to us that it goes beyond human reasons can perceived. He keeps His promises and look at us so precious that He will not allow us stumble and fall (unless you dismiss your faith in God). May we remember that as we face uncertainties in life, one thing is so sure, Christ is so committed to us.
What uncertainties are you facing now? Are you really convinced on what you really believed in?
