The Wise And The Foolish Builder

As we continue this 'Knowing God' devotional series every night, may we all have that hunger and thirst in coming to know who God is exactly in our lives not only in our circumstances but most especially as we turn the pages of our Bible every day. Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

Scripture:

Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.” (Luke 6:46-49)

Just this morning, I was asked, How many percent of your life will you give the Lord the authority? I paused. Thought about the question and answered. Then I was asked again, 'Are you sure? Really?'

This week's theme for our online devotion is so interesting - Knowing God. Some of us has been raised in a Christian family while others, has been reached out through our campus mission while others, onboard. Whichever you may be, I believe that at one point in our life, we have declared that Jesus is alive and had decided to follow Him.

In our passage, there are two persons that Jesus explained to us:
1. verse 47-48 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.
2. verse 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.

We would all agree that life is about choices, and tonight we are given a choice to be either the one who builds his foundation strongly on rock or, someone who has no foundation at all.

You see, brothers and sisters, coming to know God is like putting our trust in Him. From the time we accepted Him as our Lord and Savior, right then and there, we have trusted Him our life.

We really cannot obey someone we do not know. We cannot say yes to someone we do not know. We cannot follow someone we do not know. We do not spend time with someone we do not know. If so, then we are just fooling ourselves.

Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

As I end this, I hope and pray that as we continue this 'Knowing God' devotional series every night, may we all have that hunger and thirst in coming to know who God is exactly in our lives not only in our circumstances but most especially as we turn the pages of our Bible every day.
