Scripture:
But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (John 20:31)The Design
The Bible is a book of hope. Starting from the very beginning of creation, the Bible gave us the picture of perfection, wholeness, and completeness - shalom, in the garden, where God, humans, and His creation webbed together in justice and fulfillment, as God intended it to be.In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. (Genesis 1:1-3)
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31)
The Fall and The Story of Redemption
But this picture was broken when sin came in the heart of human, in the delight to seek for more than what God has to offer (Genesis 3). So the story of the hope to bring back this broken relationship between Man and God was written. There was hope when God told Noah to build an ark, and Noah obeyed Him.
Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him. (Genesis 6:22)
There was Hope when God gave a promise to Abraham.
Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." So he built there an altar to the Lord , who had appeared to him. (Genesis 12:7)
There was Hope when God called Moses to lead the Exodus going to the promised Land.
There was Hope when Joseph obeyed the angel sent by God.
When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus. (Matthew 1:24-25)
Hope In the Midst of Rebellion
There is Hope despite the tendency of man to fall, to sin, to disobey God. There is always Hope, because it is not based on the effort of men, but on the unconditional love of God.
The Hope In Jesus Christ
The story of Jesus healing at the pool on the Sabbath (John 5:1-17) reminds us to not put our hope to anyone nor to ourselves, because we are limited, but on Jesus alone. There is Hope when Jesus was crucified for our sins.
When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:30)
There is Hope when Jesus resurrected. There is Hope when Jesus said "peace be with you"
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you." (John 20:19-21)
Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we were able to live in Shalom.
Now we live in Hope and sent with Hope and wait patiently with Hope.
There will always be Hope, because Jesus is coming back.
He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. (Revelation 22:20-21)
