Scripture:
The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. (Matthew 23:11-12)Context:
In these succeeding verses we can see that the Lord is teaching His disciples and the crowd how to discern people that is prideful. Also, this serves as a warning to them, because in this chapter Jesus was directing to the Pharisees as an example of hypocrisy and being deceitful. And this leads us to our first point on how to humble ourselves in order for us to experience God.Pride Can Lose Our Experience With God
We know that pride is common to us humans, even in Christianity. This is really a war between our Spiritual walk and fleshly desires. Due to our mind set that “our walk-in Christ is still okay.”(Matthew 23:5) In a ministry or in Churches, we can’t deny that we are consumed by this. All we want is to worship the Lord, but we have this nature that we also want to be praised by people based on how good we are physically (not general).
A proud person will always boast their accomplishments and expose their credentials, but not all the time they are open to sharing their flaws and failures because of PRIDE. (Luke 18:10-14)
(v.5-7) In these passages, Jesus is pertaining to the people who think that they are righteous, and this could be me or you, on how we judge other people because you think you are better than them. (Romans 3:10 As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one.) It’s easy for us to say it because we are like these Pharisees who are not looking at themselves in the mirror.
Be Humble
(v.10) We don’t have the right to boast ourselves even though we have a lot of accomplishments in life. It is all by God’s grace why we achieve all of this stuff, not by our own hardship. It is not in our authority and ability for it is clearly stated that (For you have one Instructor, The Messiah). It is by Christ who is worthy to be called our Instructor in life.(v.12) I have been reminded in the last verse (a little bit confused). It is a teaching from God, not from other people. In order for us to experience God’s goodness & love we should take out that pride in our heart by being humble before God and knowing His heart every day. We are so proud of ourselves because we forget who we really are, how sinful we are, how broken we were before we met Christ. (Check our hearts)
Conclusion:
So again, humble ourselves before the Lord because He will let you experience who He really is. Be honest, let your faith be genuine always not by knowing and experiencing God in our own intellectual mind because it is useless; we are just insulting God. Let us not pretend because God knows our hearts. Let us be reminded again that true humility is in Christ who died for and saved us, and humility also comes from the people who admit that they are a sinner and in need of a savior who is Jesus Christ.
