The Sound of Silence

Would you still trust God even if he seems to be distant and doesn't hear your prayers? “Then He said, ‘Go out, and stand one the mountain before the Lord.’ And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire, a still small voice.” (1 Kings 19.11-12 NKJV)

Scripture:

“Then He said, ‘Go out, and stand one the mountain before the Lord.’ And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire, a still small voice.” (1 Kings 19.11-12 NKJV)

1.) God is never absent.

“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I make wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the see,
Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And your right hand shall hold me.” (Psalm 139.7-10 NKJV)

2.) Sin blocks our sensitivity to God’s holy presence.

“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.” (Isaiah 59.2 NJKV)
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts you double-minded.” (James 4.8 NKJV)

3.) Jesus is our only access to God.

“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who become for us wisdom of God – and righteousness and sanctification and redemption…” (I Corinthians 1.30 NKJV)

4.) Genuine faith does not reflect on our ability to feel God’s presence. It reflects in our belief that God is present in our inability to feel His presence.

“Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for You are with me;
Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Psalm 23.4 NKJV)

5.) God’s “silence” is His way of telling us to trust in Him all the more.

“Jesus answered and said to them, ‘What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.’” (John 13.7 NKJV)
“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5.3-5 NKJV)
“Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation.
My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectations is from Him.” (Psalm 62.1,5 NKJV)
