Read: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ESV
MESSAGE:
The word ‘gospel’ literally means the good news. The good news about the life of Jesus and God’s plan for salvation.Apostle Paul briefly explained it in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ESV
"Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures."
This is the good news that God wants all of us to hear and always be reminded of but truth be told, most of us do not appreciate this good news or do not see the need for it.
Many people consider the Gospel irrelevant to their lives for some reasons. It could be because they misunderstood some truths in the Bible or they don’t believe at all.
We need the Gospel because all of us have sinned.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23 ESV)
Sin is an act against God’s law, an attitude of rebellion against Him and I believe all of us sinned and none has followed God’s law perfectly.
'... as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one." (Romans 3:10 ESV)
"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23 ESV)
The result of sin is death and we are not talking about physical death but eternal death which brings eternal condemnation and separation from God.
While God is loving, He is also just that He cannot tolerate sins unpunished. We are to pay for those sins but the Gospel is the good news that God gave His one and only Son to die for our sins. (John 3:16) and by faith in Jesus Christ the righteous requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us. (Romans 8:4)
We need the Gospel because we misunderstood the purpose of our lives.
'YOLO" as many young adults usually say. It means “You Only Live Once” so you should do or try exciting things even if it’s silly or dangerous. We assume that everything in this world should be experienced to make ourselves happy until we get old and die.
But by hearing the Gospel, we will understand that God’s desire for us isn’t just to be saved but to live for His glory as what we were created for beforehand.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV)
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 ESV)
When we pursue Christ-likeness and live God’s calling, we are living a life glorifying God.
CONCLUSION:
Taking for granted the message of the Gospel is embracing condemnation from God because of our sins and it will result in eternal death and eternal separation from God.We should realize that we need God in our lives and apart from Him we are nothing. Many people need to hear the “Good News” and Christians need to be reminded of this message everyday.
Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ESV)
