Read: Genesis 4:3-7
Through our faith, we are able to see what others cannot see.We have to show how we love GOD.
In the book of Genesis 4, Abel shows his love for God through his sacrificial offering.
Q: Why did God accept Abel’s offering?
"When it was time for the harvest, Cain presented some of his crops as a gift to the Lord. Abel also brought a gift—the best portions of the firstborn lambs from his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected." Genesis 4:3-4A: It’s because of the right motive of his heart. Abel gave that best of what he had. He was able to do what others cannot do because of his faith in God. Sacrifice is usually branded by the pain and difficulty of surrendering something one values in order to have something else. How can you say you sacrificed something when you don’t have the somber feeling of doing it?
Q: Why did God reject Cain's offering?
“Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” Genesis 4:6-7A: It is because of his selfishness. Yes, Cain also offered something to God but God knew it was not his best. God sees that Cain had reservations in his heart as he made the offering, and God is not pleased with partial offerings. If we offer our life to God, we have to offer it all and not partially.
Reading Genesis 3:7, we can say that God gave Cain another chance to do what is right in His sight. A chance to repent and turn to Him. Unfortunately, Cain, out of his anger and jealousy, still chose to kill his own brother.
Note: God is looking for the right heart attitude in everything we do
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:1-2 NLT)
