Read: Psalms 119:105
Question:
Will you be ready for such unpleasant times to take place? Are you prepared enough to face that battle? What are the things that we should do to protect ourselves especially in this pandemic season?Answers: What we commonly do now is taking multi-vitamins, doing sanitation, observing social distancing, and panic-buying especially food.
In reality, we are too busy securing and feeding our physical needs, and most of the time we forget to reflect and to eat our spiritual food. Is this necessary? Yes, because the enemy loves to consume our minds especially during this pandemic. In my devotion, I will personally share about reading and meditating on the Word of God.
When was the last time we read our Bible? When was the last time we fed our tummy?
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalms 119:105)
God, through His Word, gives us the assurance to live in this world with security and protection. So, what is the assurance there? What benefits can we get in reading and reflecting on His word?
Your word is a lamp to my feet – this talks to us; that God’s word is teaching us how to prepare and equip ourselves.
A light to my path – this phrase pertains to how we deal with other people and how we face our struggles in life.
The Bible teaches us a good amount of important truths and hopes that we can hold on to in our daily lives.
“For the word of the LORD is upright.” (Psalm 33:4)
How can the Word of God change our lives? Here are the three points that I consider:
Perspective
-This world will always make us suffer pain and brokenness. As it is being popularly said, Christianity is not about having a comfortable life. It will cost us a lot and it will affect our comfort zone in order for us to grow. Most importantly, it’s all for God’s glory.Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)
-We should never be afraid to face tomorrow because God’s promises in His Word are all pure and true.
Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. (John 17:17)
Purity
Without the Word of God:-this pandemic would be the best time for Satan to entice our fleshly desires.
-temptations (lust, social media, mobile games, etc.) can easily divert us into sin.
-anything can hinder us from reading God’s Word.
But what should we do? The Bible made it crystal clear.
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. (Psalm 119:9)
The Word of God gives us convictions and reproaches through the Holy Spirit.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
So, let us meditate on God’s Word to protect us from those temptations (refer to Psalms 1:1-2)
Hope
In reality, we tend to put our hope in other people, in the government, and in other kinds of stuff that the world is offering. Amidst sufferings, God is telling us to put our trust and hope in Him – especially through the tribulations we are experiencing in this world. If we truly understand the grace of God who gives unconditionally, we will overcome this because Jesus Christ had already won our battles at the Cross. You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word. (Psalms 119:114)
The future can be scary a lot of uncertainties. Who knows what tomorrow might bring?
However, when we have faith in Christ, we have hope not only in this life but also in the next. The future, though uncertain, can be entrusted to God and He will help us through.
-It will never be easy to walk a Christian life here on earth but God’s promises in His Word is absolute and is our final authority.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (Matthew 24:35)
As we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and experience His goodness, it will absolutely bear a fruit that will make reading and understanding His Word with less difficulty. In His overflowing grace, may we delight and put our hope and trust in Jesus.
Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. (Matthew 26:41)
Let us equip ourselves by meditating on God’s word so we can be protected from deceptions.
