Read: Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV)It was summer when I participated as a facilitator to a Christian retreat of my church. It was also just recently when I was medically discharged at Bremen, Germany and as I see my career life shattered, it made me anxious and troubled about life to where it would take me. Supposedly, I was there to facilitate and contribute but end up being the “patient in a hospital”.
I don’t know if you’ve come to a point in your life that you became so trouble and all you ever think was yourself and the problem. Right now, I want to share with you how God delivered me from that moment of uncertainties.
1) Know God's Sovereignty (Trust in the Lord with all your heart and;)
Have you ever trusted someone you don’t know? Have you ever bought something you’re not even sure? There is an attribute of God that we need to understand clearly that can greatly help us to trust whatever the circumstances will be! The problem is often forgot or we do not know what is it and that is His sovereignty. See scriptures, Isaiah 46: 9-10, Ephesians 1:11, Matthew 10:29, Proverbs 16:33, Proverbs 19:21 concerning His purpose fulfilling.2) Be totally dependent on God (lean not on your own understanding;)
In one of the gospels, talks about the children to be the citizen of the kingdom of God. The point there is be child-like, to have the attitude of a child where he runs to his parents whenever in need of something. Of course we have never seen a baby making his own milk in a bottle. The problem with us sometimes is we think we can handle things on our own and worst is we think we are already spiritually stable that’s why we neglect our prayer life, bible reading, fellowship and going to church and by the moment we knew it, we are already drowning, if we are honest enough to admit it. No other secret or formula but to run to God every time. To lean on Him for He knows what’s best for us (Jeremiah 29:11)3) Obey God as we Trust (in all your ways submit to Him)
Obedience is a by-product of trust. You know you are trusting when you are obeying. Abraham obeyed God as a sign of trust and that he was justified because of faith and became the father of faith. It is where lordship comes in. We, believers are expected to obey as a fruit of our salvation and sign that we are trusting God. We are to obey God in smaller task that we can learn to obey him in bigger one, in comfortable life and in uncomfortable, in sadness and in happiness. Thus, we are to trust God in lesser significant of our life that we may learn to trust Him in more. We are to continue to trust Him as we have trusted Him in the first place, the first time we believe. This verse was always been my guide:“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:8-9)
4) Delight in His unseen Kingdom (and he will make your paths straight.)
If we find it very hard to trust God in uncertain circumstances knowing that we are already saved, how much more if we do not know our eternal destination, how much more if we are not 100 percent sure of our life after death? First things first, we are to be sure with our life after death that the peace that come from God will develop in us the trust we needed to continue in our faith. How is our conviction if Jesus Christ will return later? Can we say we will be happy? God never said life would be easy for His people. Our citizenship is never in this world which makes us enemy of this world. The promise of the straight path leads and refers to heaven, with that, knowing your eternal destination, knowing that you are secured enables you to trust whatever problems comes our way of any kind. The only question is, are we certain where we are going after life?We are commanded to trust in God in all areas of our life which comes after knowing whom we trust, God’s sovereignty, to lean on Him in all circumstances through and by His Word, submit and obey Him whatever the world will throw at us and delighting in His unseen Kingdom as long for His return which is the natural effect of trusting Him in our salvation.
