The Right Focus

In making decisions and fulfilling things for God, we need to have the right mindset first. Then we have to be watchful during the process. Finally, set our hope fully on the completion of our Christian race, our reunion with our Lovely Savior in His return.

Read: 1 Peter 1:13

Our lives are filled with days making decisions and fulfilling our calling. How we start plays a very important role in achieving anything we want to finish or accomplish. Starting might not always be the hardest, but it's always crucial because how we start affects the next move or step we are going to take.

I like how Peter encourages us with this verse on how to start on something. This will be a good reminder for us in starting our day or in making decisions, even in the process of finishing it.

How should we start? Let’s begin.

1. CHANGE OF FOCUS - Right Mindset (Philippians 4:8)

Many times our hearts and minds are being deceived by the lies of the enemy (compromises and sins such as anger and pride). That’s the reason Peter encourages us to “prepare our minds for action”. Our mindset must be changed first and be tuned-in to Jesus so that our start and decisions are aligned to His will. Even so, Paul encourages us with his letter to the Church in Philippi (Philippians 4:8) regarding the right mindset.

2. STAYING FOCUSED - Being Sober-Minded, Watchful, and Alert (1 Peter 5:8)

Another reminder of Peter in this verse is about being “sober-minded." Biblically speaking, being sober-minded means being watchful, alert, or staying on focus. As our mindsets are changed, we must be watchful and alert, because the enemy is there waiting for a chance to devour us (1 Peter 5:8). The enemy will not just sit down and watch us fulfilling God’s promises and callings in our lives. It will do everything for us not to be victorious. It will throw stones in our path and we’ll have the choice of making those piles of stones as a bridge or as a wall.

3. CHRIST'S RETURN MUST BE OUR MAIN FOCUS - (Titus 2:13)

The last encouragement of Peter in this verse is about “fully setting our hope on the Grace that will be brought to us when Jesus is revealed." Paul is encouraging is to set or hope in Christ’s return. In starting or accomplishing something for God, we need to fully set our Hope in Jesus. I like how Peter emphasized the Hope we need. It should not be partially set but fully set. Sometimes, we put our hope on other things rather than to Jesus. The coming of Christ shall be the completion of our race of the Christian faith, and the fulfillment of our hope. For those who would reject Jesus Christ, this will be a day of judgment; but for us, this will be a reunion with our Lovely Savior.

Conclusion: In making decisions and fulfilling things for God, we need to have the right mindset first. Then we have to be watchful during the process. Finally, set our hope fully on the completion of our Christian race, our reunion with our Lovely Savior in His return.

Questions to ponder:

1. In starting your day, making decisions, and fulfilling your calling, what are the things you should remove to start strong?

2. And what are the things you should add?
