Read: Romans 12:2 NIV
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is---his good, pleasing and perfect will.(Romans 12:2 NIV)
1. Change is never easy... but it is a decision you have to make.
Why is it not easy? Because of the "pattern" of this world. These are the earthly/worldly desires that contradict His Word especially when it is yielding to sin. We all know that when there is sin, there is guilt and shame and this is a common struggle among Christians.
Change is tough especially when it comes to sinful habits that we've been doing for so long or when it comes to practices that have been normalized by our society today such as cursing.
“Putting off” the clothes of the old man (the old, habitual lifestyle) will not be complete until you are determined to “put on” the garment of the new man (the new, fresh, Christian lifestyle).
In other words, change is a CHOICE. It is a decision you have to make. A decision to put on the new mindset of Christ. (Ephesians 4:22-24)
Philippians 4:8 talks about how can we put on this new mindset. "Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. If anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things."
So as Christians we must be careful of what we feed in our minds. Not everything that we see on social media is beneficial to us. It can either benefit us or corrupt us. Though some content are good for education purpose and entertainment, let us still be wise about how can we guard ourselves.
2. Change, real change, takes time.
At first, I thought that change is an instant phenomena, that when we come to Christ we are instantly changed but it's not. As we journey with Christ, we find ourselves being tested every day.
In our journey, we can never do it alone. We need someone to help us grow and mature and at the same time to correct us when we're wrong. Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so a person sharpens another."
Lastly, let us remember that the Spirit of God or the Holy Spirit whom we received when we came to Christ is at work in us. (Romans 8:1-2)
Conclusion:
As Christians, change is frustrating and discouraging sometimes especially when we find ourselves sinning over and over again.
However, let us always remind ourselves that God's grace is new every morning. If we fall seven times, we rise up again. Let us always reconcile with God. Let us humble ourselves and admit that we have sinned. after that, repent and learn from those mistakes like Jesus said to the lame,"Go and sin no more"
Let us seek God and pray that we may overcome every trial. Amen.
