God's grace is amazing. Right? How can we say that? Because it can do a lot of things and a lot of help in our lives. In fact, it is the most important thing we need in life.
What is God's grace? And how does it help us? God's grace is getting what we DON'T DESERVE, and not getting what we deserve.
How does God's grace help us? There are several ways but here are some of them:
1. His Grace FORGIVES our sins.
We, as human beings, are very sinful. All of us have in some way or another, committed sins and mistakes. The Bible confirms this in
Romans 3:23 that says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,".
The Bible further explains that we deserve punishment for these sins we have done. And this punishment is spiritual death, or in a clearer view, that means we are bound to go to hell.
Romans 6:23a says, "For the wages of sin is DEATH...".
So what did God do? He forgave us. He did not let each one of us be the ones to be punished. How can we say so? Romans 3:23b continued to say...
"...but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
2. His Grace SAVES.
In connection with point number 1, our sins are the biggest and most dangerous threat and the curse of our life. So God saves us from it through sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalties for our sins instead.
Romans 5:8-9 states:
"But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God."
So God promises to deliver us from this curse of hell and eternal condemnation, as we sincerely accept His saving grace in our lives.
3. His Grace REDEEMS and TRANSFORMS.
If before we are dead in sin, now, through God's grace, we are free from the slavery of sin. And we are pursuing and thriving to have a righteous living before God.
"Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to RIGHTEOUS LIVING." (Romans 6:17-18 NLT)
We can never change ourselves with our own strength. NEVER. We will always stumble and fall when we try to do so. But when we allow God's grace to redeem us from these sinful lifestyles and transform us into the people He wants us to become, the results are promising. To emphasize, HE is the only One who can change us. But we need to allow Him to have His Way in us so He can completely and magnificently do so.
4. His Grace gives POWER and ENDURANCE.
"But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.'..." (2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV)
God's grace empowers and strengthens us most especially at our times of weakness. He gives us enough endurance and provisions so we can overcome all the trials and testing seasons of our lives.
5. His Grace never gives up on us.
“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” (Philippians 1:6)
His grace is ever patient with us in our every failure and shortcomings. No matter how hard-headed, hard-hearted we are, He will never give up on pursuing us until the day of His return. However, may we be reminded that whether we accept or reject His love for us is completely our choice to make.
6. His Grace MEETS ALL our NEEDS.
"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work." (2 Corinthians 9:8 ESV)
God provides us always with MORE THAN ENOUGH graces and blessings that we need in all forms (physically, financially, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually). So we can have plenty to bless others as well as He uses us. For He never wants us to lack anything from Him. But instead, He always wants His grace to overflow in us so it can overflow to others as well.
So now that we understand further how great, amazing, and ever-sufficient God's grace is, here's my question: “why do we sometimes feel that it isn't enough?”
Let's take for example the water supply at your house in your village. There is a water supply system that flows to each household. You wonder why your neighbors do not complain about their water supply while your house is having water shortage. Do you it's the water supplier fault why there's shortage in your house while every other house in the village has abundance of it? Probably not.
Because in that case, there must be something wrong with your pipe.
Same with God's grace. His grace is overflowing, free, and impartial, it is for everybody. But why do we not experience it abundantly?
It’s because there must be something wrong with our reception. We're either lacking in faith and trust in Him, or lacking in obedience, or lacking in focus, or lacking in surrender, or lacking in our love for Him.
Whatever it is that hinders our pipe, we have to be aware of it, and we need to surrender it to God. The extent of our reception of God's grace depends on the extent of our surrender.
