Chokma (Wisdom)

It’s not wrong to ask for many things. In fact, God wants you to prosper. But also know that He will not give you what you can’t handle. How can he give you riches when you can’t even handle a small amount? How can he give you anything you desire if you don’t have a humble heart to acknowledge God as the source of everything?

What do people desire the most? According to survey. There are 8 things people want. These are the following; happiness, money, freedom, peace, joy, balance, fulfillment and confidence.

If you were given a chance to ask for one thing, what would it be? In a world where we are bombarded with many options, it is sometimes difficult to choose. It’s really a matter of choosing which is the best one.

King Solomon was asked by God this question when he was to be the king of Israel. “At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.” (1 Kings 3:5)

What do you think King Solomon asked for? “So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” (1 Kings 3:9)

Above all the things King Solomon could ask for, he asked for wisdom. Why? Because he is still a young man and he didn’t know how to govern the people of Israel. He needed knowledge and wisdom. Wisdom is the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience, knowledge, and good judgment. God knows exactly what King Solomon needed and so are you. Even before we ask, He already knows. And it it’s according to His will, he will hear your prayer.

‘The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11 So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.” (1 Kings 3:10)

And God doesn’t only give what you asked for. He gives more than that! That’s how generous your God is. King Solomon only asked for wisdom. God was pleased of how humble and unselfish the prayer of King Solomon was. Not only did he provide him with the kind of wisdom that nobody could over possess but He also provided King Solomon with wealth, honor and long life if he continues to obey God’s command.

“Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. And if you walk in obedience to me and keep my decrees and commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life.” 1 Kings 3:13-14

King Solomon’s wisdom reached many people and they are blessed by hearing how wise he is.

It’s not wrong to ask for many things. In fact, God wants you to prosper. But also know that He will not give you what you can’t handle. How can he give you riches when you can’t even handle a small amount? How can he give you anything you desire if you don’t have a humble heart to acknowledge God as the source of everything?

Having wisdom keeps you in sync with the will of God. Before anything else, ask God to put the right desires in your heart. Nothing could go wrong to a person who puts God in everything and aims to make Him happy by choosing the wisest choice.
