Power, Love, and Self-control

Everyday we are faced with different challenges, rejections, pain, temptations and the threat of faltering faith during these situations. But today we are reminded by God that we were not given a spirit that is timid. To be timid is to lack determination, self-confidence and the courage. Any cowardice that we feel when we are hesitant to do things or to try new things that should be for the glory of God is not a work of the Holy Spirit. This is why we are given a spirit of power, love and self-control.

Scripture:

God didn’t give us a spirit that is timid but one that is powerful, loving, and self-controlled. (2 Timothy 1:7 CEB)

POWER

We need power to motivate ourselves to respond to our purpose in life that will manifest the work of the Spirit within us. We gain strength through this power. However, this power is not something that we gain from our own personal efforts alone. It is the strength that comes from God that we gain power - the power to spread the Good News or to live according to our purpose. It is in our weakest times that we gain this Godly strength.

LOVE

Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our sins will always be our perfect reminder of what love truly is. Thus, "we love because He first loved us" - 1 John 4:19. And so we are given the capability to love God and our neighbor and from that love, we produce fruits of good deeds.

SELF-CONTROL

Self-control or sound mind/judgment, as Christians, is essential when making decisions. We must consider how our self-discipline will reflect on our actions. This self-discipline is not just something that we try to gain on our own. This is also to be sought from God, and not from ourselves alone.

We are all given a sprit of power, love and sound mind.
